Stories have always been my first love.
Before I knew what it meant to build a brand, start a podcast, create a website, or think seriously about publishing, I loved stories. I loved the way they could pull me into another world, introduce me to people who felt real, and make me feel understood without ever knowing my name.
Writing has always been there too, but for a long time, I do not think I understood what it could become. It was something I loved. Something that came naturally to me. Something I could return to whenever an idea would not leave me alone.
I never imagined it would begin to feel like what I was called to do.
Calling is such a big word. It sounds like something you are supposed to recognize immediately—like one day a light turns on and suddenly you know exactly where your life is going.
That was not how it happened for me.
For me, it looked like one story becoming another. It looked like characters showing up in my mind and refusing to leave. It looked like finishing manuscripts, revising chapters, imagining covers, researching agents, and continuing even when nobody could promise me where any of it would lead.
Then I finally started taking the leap.
I stopped treating my creativity like something that had to stay hidden until somebody else approved of it. I created a space for my books. I started sharing my thoughts. I launched Hear Me Out. I began building something that allowed all the different parts of my creativity to exist together.
The moment I took my gift seriously, new doors began to appear.
Not every door looked the way I expected. Some of them were opportunities. Some were ideas. Some were new skills I never thought I would learn. Some were simply new things to look forward to.
I have learned about websites, newsletters, audio editing, podcasting, branding, character artwork, and creating an entire home for the stories that used to live only inside my head. One leap did not lead to one destination. It opened a hallway full of doors I did not even know were there.
That may be the part that surprises me most. Writing did not make my world smaller by asking me to focus on one dream. It made my world bigger.
Every story became proof that there was more waiting for me.
There is still uncertainty. I still do not know which manuscript will receive the first yes, what opportunity may come next, or exactly what this journey will look like a year from now.
But I have something I did not have before: momentum. I have things I am excited to create. I have proof that I can learn what I do not know. I have a growing body of work that reminds me I did not only dream—I moved.
Maybe a calling is not always one dramatic moment of certainty. Maybe sometimes it is the thing that keeps finding you. The thing that keeps making room for new possibilities. The thing that feels like home even while it is leading you somewhere you have never been.
Stories were my first love. Writing became the way I gave those stories a life. And taking this leap has shown me that what I thought was simply something I loved may have been pointing me toward my purpose all along.
I do not know every door this path will open. I am just grateful I finally gave myself permission to walk through the first one.
And for the first time in a long time, I am not only excited about where I am going.
I am excited about who I am becoming on the way there.
With love,
Karinna Sorelle 🤎
