The Test of Stress

Stress may test your faith, but it does not have the power to defeat it.

“The testing of your faith produces perseverance.”

James 1:3 · NIV

Stress has a way of revealing what is happening inside us.

When everything is going well, it can be easy to say that we trust God. But when plans fall apart, responsibilities pile up, money becomes tight, or life feels heavier than usual, that trust is tested.

Stress asks the question: Where will you turn when life becomes too much for you to carry alone?

Sometimes, our first response is to panic. We try to solve every problem at once, replay every possible outcome, and carry burdens God never asked us to hold by ourselves. We become so focused on what could go wrong that we forget who is still in control.

But experiencing stress does not mean your faith is weak. It means you are human.

The real test is what you do with that stress.

Will you allow it to pull you away from God, or will you let it push you closer to Him?

God never promised that following Him would make us exempt from difficult seasons. What He promised was that we would not have to face them alone. The pressure may be real, but so is His presence. The situation may feel uncertain, but God has not become uncertain.

Sometimes, the stressful season is teaching us to slow down. Sometimes, it is showing us that we cannot control everything. Sometimes, it is strengthening our patience, deepening our faith, and reminding us to depend on God instead of ourselves.

You may not understand why you are being tested right now, but the test is not proof that God has abandoned you.

He is with you in the waiting.
He is with you in the uncertainty.
He is with you when your mind is racing and you do not know what to do next.

You do not have to solve tomorrow’s problems today. Take a breath. Pray about what is in front of you, handle what you can, and trust God with what you cannot.

Stress may test your faith, but it does not have the power to defeat it.

A Prayer for This Week

Lord, life feels heavy right now, and I admit that I have been trying to carry too much on my own. Calm my mind and help me remember that You are still in control. Give me wisdom for the things I can handle, patience for the things I cannot change, and faith while I wait for You to move. Use this season to strengthen me, not break me. Help me place every worry into Your hands and trust that You will walk with me through it all.

In Jesus’ name, amen. 🤍

Until next time... hear Him out. 🤍
